Terms of Use
Last updated 13 August 2026
These terms govern your use of Zimu. By installing or using the app, you agree to them.
License
Zimu grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial learning. The app's source code, user interface, trademarks, branding, and original content (including Zimu's curated example sentences, character and word explanations, mnemonics, and grammar notes) remain the property of Zimu. The dictionary entries derived from CC-CEDICT (definitions and pinyin readings) are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence; your use of that data is governed by those terms.
Subscriptions and purchases
The core of Zimu is free. Optional Zimu Pro features are available as an auto-renewing subscription (annual or monthly) or a one-time lifetime purchase.
- Billing. Purchases are made through the store you installed Zimu from: Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPad, Google Play on Android. They are subject to that store's payment terms. We never see or store your payment details.
- Free trial. Subscriptions may include a free trial. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the subscription starts and the plan price is charged.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically and your Apple or Google account is charged for the next period unless you cancel first. On the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. On Google Play, cancel before the renewal date.
- Managing and cancelling. Manage or cancel any time in your subscription settings: in the App Store on iPhone and iPad, or in the Play Store on Android. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Lifetime purchase. The lifetime option is a one-time payment that unlocks Pro for the store account that bought it. Use Restore Purchases on the paywall to recover it on a new device signed in to that account. On iPhone and iPad it can also be shared through Apple's Family Sharing where enabled.
- Refunds. On the App Store, refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Google Play, request a refund through Google Play within 48 hours of purchase; after that window Google directs the request to us, and we will review it under these terms and applicable law.
- Prices and features. Prices vary by country and can change; the price you'll pay is always shown before you buy. The set of Pro features may evolve over time.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code or bundled models
- Redistribute the app, Zimu's original content, or bundled resources, except for content offered under an open licence that permits it (such as the dictionary data derived from CC-CEDICT, under CC BY-SA 4.0), which you may use under that licence
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose
- Interfere with the app's operation or our servers
Third-party content
Zimu includes third-party open-source data and models, each used under its respective licence; the applicable licence texts are included with the app.
No warranty
Zimu is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. Translations, pinyin, grammar explanations, and dictionary entries are a learning aid and may be imperfect. They are not a substitute for professional translation or instruction. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Zimu and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material, the updated version will be shipped in a future app release and available at getzimu.app/terms.
Termination
You can stop using Zimu at any time by uninstalling the app. We may also update, change, or discontinue the app or any of its features. If we ever have to discontinue the app entirely, we'll aim to give users reasonable notice where we can.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
