Data Deletion
Last updated 25 August 2026
Zimu has no accounts, so there's no account to delete. Nearly everything the app holds sits on your own device, and you can remove all of it yourself.
Deleting what's on your device
This covers your saved words, notes, tags, saved views, search history, learning progress, and captures.
- iPhone and iPad: delete the app. Notebook data that synced to iCloud sits in your iCloud account rather than in the app, so remove it separately from Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Zimu → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
- Backups: if iCloud backup or Android backup is on, a copy can outlive the app in your Apple or Google account. Manage it in that account's backup settings.
What leaves your device
Not much, and none of it points to you. With Usage analytics switched on, Zimu sends pseudonymous product events: which tabs you open, session length, how many words you save. Crash reports carry a stack trace, device model, and app version. Neither includes the Chinese you scan, the words you look up, or anything you write.
All of it carries a random token that isn't linked to your name, your email, or any device identifier, and there's no account behind it. So there's usually nothing here for you to ask us to delete, and nothing we could pick out if you did. To stop it, turn off Usage analytics in Settings → About → Privacy. Crash reports expire from our provider's retention window on their own.
Asking us to delete something
Two things we do hold: a problem report, if you sent one from inside the app, and a record of a Zimu Pro purchase so the app knows you're entitled to it. Email privacy@getzimu.app to have either removed, with a rough date, or the order number from your receipt for a purchase. We reply within 30 days. Apple and Google keep their own record of any purchase, which we can't reach, so those requests go to them.
